Question: How do you overcome the barriers to an exercise program?
Answers:
Make exercise a priority. You focus on exercise as you would some part of your life that is very important such as your job or family.
If you haven't exercised in a long time, start slowly and gradually. If you choose walking, start walking for five minutes and gradually increase your time. If you choose running, run for a quarter of a mile at a very slow pace and gradually increase your distance and pace.
Use guilt as a motivator. If you find yourself resisting exercise, tell yourself that it is crucial for your mental and physical health that you do work out today.
Set aside a special time to exercise. Some folks like to exercise early in the morning; others after work. Find a time that is best for you.
Use positivity as a motivator. If you find yourself resisting exercise, tell yourself how great you will feel once you have completed your work out.
Don't use "I don't have time to exercise" as an excuse to bail. You can find time for most anything if you have the desire and that is true with working out on a regular basis.
